Faw Side Community Wind Farm

Faw Side Community Wind Farm is located in Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish Borders, approximately 6.7 km north of Langholm and 17.8 km south west of Hawick.  The proposal consists of :

- 40 turbines with 200m tip heights;

- 5 turbines with 179m tip heights;

- Associated infrastructure; access tracks, crane hardstands, temporary borrow bits, temporary construction & storage compound, substation /control room compound and energy storage facility; And

- 40 year operational life.

Environmental Benefits
Faw Side Community Wind Farm will be able to generate up to 1.24 TWh per annum, power for 328,400 homes each year for its 40 year operational life. Faw Side Community Wind Farm would be able displace 571,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, 22.84 million over its 40 year operational life. 

Faw Side Community Wind Farm will provide a significant contribution to the Scottish Net-Zero target for 2045 and UK target for 2050 and towards UK and European targets on carbon dioxide reductions and renewable energy generation.


Economic Benefits
Faw Side Community Wind farm will lead to significant investment in the local area, more than £800 million over the course of its 40 year operational life span. This breaks down across the following; construction of the wind farm, business rates, landowner payments, community assets and benefits and job creation. The wind farm will support the post Covid-19 'Green Recovery' with 200 jobs during construction and six permanent roles during the lifetime of the project. And Community Windpower's 'Buy Scottish' policy will endeavor to keep jobs in the region.
