'Buy Scottish' Policy

Our 'Buy Scottish'
Policy

Through our ten operational and consented wind farms,  CWL has a total investment in Scotland to date of £500m, which will increase to £625m by 2023 and £1.5bn by 2025. We firmly believe that our approach, working with Scottish engineering, electrical and civil contractors to build our wind farms, is the most sustainable way to do it.

A an example of our commitment, we have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CS Wind UK, based in Campbeltown and have committed to source turbine towers from them for our consented and future wind farms. Our commitment secures jobs for Scottish people in the future and forms part of our pledge to supporting Scottish businesses. Community Windpower recognises that CS Wind is going through a period of uncertainty, however our commitment to them remains unchanged.

On securing a contract with Community Windpower to build Aikengall IIa Community Wind Farm in 2020… “We’re delighted to secure this significant contract with Community Windpower and continue the good relationship we’ve had since building its first wind farm project in North Ayrshire in 2006. We look forward to jointly delivering this important energy asset.”  - Bruce Clark, joint managing director at RJ McLeod.

“Community Wind Power have again actively demonstrated their commitment to using the UK supply chain wherever possible. A major employer in a rural area, the CS wind UK factory supports over 160 local jobs and contributes over 7Million pounds per year in wages to the UK economy. The support and commitment from Community Windpower to source in Scotland helps to ensure that the benefits and opportunities from renewable energy projects are also felt in the UK manufacturing and supply chain industries” - Lesley Black, Marketing and Sales Manager at CS Wind Scotland

"Our company Starling Learning is an ecological consultancy, environmental education, conservation management and wildlife gardening agency based in Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire. For many years we have carried out ecological surveys for Community Windpower. This continuing flow of work has greatly enabled our small company to grow, and indeed continue to exist when many other ecological consultancies have struggled in recent years. We are aware that their policy of buying Scottish has benefitted many companies and communities". -Liz Parsons, CEO at Starling Learning.

“Thanks to renewable energy projects, and in particular, the work involved on Sanquhar Community Wind Farm, we have not only survived the Recession but have seen our company expand and develop. Community Windpower gave us the opportunity to take on the major civil works contract for their wind farm, something which is normally offered to bigger companies. Through this opportunity we have been able to provide a significant boost to the local economy, and train up members of the local community" - Fraser Dykes, Director at AMD Contract Services Ltd

"The renewable sector is hugely important, not just for Scotland but for Dumfries and Galloway’s economic platform and growth. Community Windpower continues to build on its success, taking advantage of technological advances to ensure a continuous, sustainable industry for the future. Developing the Young Workforce Dumfries and Galloway is delighted to be working closely with Community Windpower to inform our region’s young people about this sector which will carry hundreds of them into exciting and prosperous careers. It is vital that we meet with the young people, show them what the industry is all about, what exactly renewable energy is and how it is produced and just how they, with all their technological understanding can fit in and contribute and help to further the ambitions of the industry" .-Justin Thomas, Programme Manager at DYW Dumfries and Galloway.
